In contrast, taking off the water pump is simple. All you have to do is locate it on the outbaord engine by checking the repair manual and loosening the exterior bolts that connect the pump to the housing. Remove the linkage and disconnect the parting line by heating it with an oxyacetylane torch. Once this is removed, locate and remove the brass pins. To reassemble the water pump, just reverse the procedure.
Inspect hoses and gaskets around the outboard for cracks, tears, and pinholes every few months. It’s advisable to replace them every season or two to keep the outboard running smoothly and efficiently and to prevent gas leaks.
