Fishing line suggestions?
I have a Daiwa 9000C and Senator 114H I bought at a garage sale that work perfectly. I have to restring them but am not sure what type of line to use. I will be fishing close to Catalina and Newport/Redondo Boat areas. I think I should use around a 30lb line but don’t know which brand. Any suggestions and/or types? Thanks
The Penn Senator114H is a big reel. Penn says it holds 475 yards of 50# line; mine was filled with 80#. I used it for trolling for albacore and tuna, generally in Mexican waters. I don’t see much use for it in local waters other than maybe deep water rock cod fishing.
As far as I can tell, the 9000C is an older spinning reel. Spinners are seldom made for more than 30 pound test, and this model might be suited for thinner line, like 20 pound test.
Anyway, for So. Cal local fishing, 20 pound test should suit you for most situations.
As for brands, stick with the real brands of monofilament (Ande and Trilene Big Game are my preferences) and not the real cheap store brands. Some line (like those two) are specifically marketed for saltwater, I’ve had problems with freshwater line not holding up well in the salt. I prefer clear line (even “dirty” inshore water is clearer than the clear line, so there’s really no reason to use tinted line).
