anyone know how to Sail a beneteau 36.7?
I’m going sailing with my fiance this weekend on our friends beneteau 36.7. I know how to sail but I’ve never been on a Boat like a beneteau 36.7 before. I’m use to smaller boats. I own a J24 and sail that all the time. Could anyone help me on the layout of the deck? Or have any useful websites I could go to. Whenever I search the boat I usually only find sites for Boats On Sale.
Thanks
While I agree with the answers already posted, bear in mind that she will probably carry her way a lot further than you are used to, so some decisions need to be made much earlier: for example, which side of a moored boat or buoy to pass in a tideway if it is near your direct course. You will be dealing with both a longer boat, and surely rather more tons displacement, than in your J24.
While I am not familiar with the J24, I presume that you have sheet winches. With the larger boat you will make extensive use of winches, so if by any chance that is not familiar to you do make sure that you use them the safe way – so that you avoid riding turns and also so that you keep fingers out of the way of the turns at all times. Ball of the hand or clenched fist to hold initial turns onto the drum while you add further turns with the other hand from a sufficient distance away. Never, never, let fingers get anywhere near the drum!
One enquiry that you should make at some point after you arrive onboard and before venturing offshore is to ask the owner or skipper how you reef the boat. Apart from showing seamanlike interest, what is much more important is that if the need arises while you are offshore, and you are asked to do the job, it is a bit late then to start asking how to do it.
